The Audio
The Adventure Zone is a Dungeons and Dragons actual play podcast done by the Mcelroy Family, and it’s one of my favorite podcasts and stories of all time. The Balance arc is the original story of The Adventure Zone which spans sixty-nine episodes of pure magic. I picked a small snippet from one of the last episodes that in just a few moments tells a beautiful love story that unfolds over a century. It’s a touching and well delivered moment that I thought would make an excellent stand alone piece.
Creative Brief
This is one of the softer moments in The Adventure Zone and so I want the visuals to match that tone. It’s romantic in nature, and the addition of the violin music behind the audio enhances this and creates the feeling of a very classic love story. The specific inspirations that I’m drawing on for the visual elements are the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie as well as the 2019 Little Women movie, both of which feature romantic elements in a strong but not forceful way which reflects the inevitability of love that is referenced later on in the show. The way the text is presented and animated onto the screen should also reflect this inevitable feeling, winding up slowly and then ebbing and flowing with the music until it eventually tapers off to a fulfilling end. All of the assets and text will be in a color palette inspired but he crisp nature tones featured in both Pride and Prejudice and Little Women, and will be overlaid on a lightly textured background to add to the natural almost vintage feeling. I believe all of these design elements complement the message, delivery, and tone of the piece and will create a cohesive stand alone piece.
Story Boards
These boards are messy and don’t convey much else than the basic landmarks that I need to move forward with my project. If I was worried about pitching my idea to someone else, I would clean them up and make sure everything actually fit within the boundaries of the box like they needed to, but for a diagram of movement that only I need to translate, these messy sticky note boards work perfectly.
